Dive Club Wellington Updates<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We celebrated our 18th Birthday on the 1st of August and celebrated with our worst performance in the local quiz but we had fun and it was great to catch up with our divers on dry land.

We have survived another Wellington winter of diving and welcome spring with more diving planned. It is time to dust off your gear, check your cylinders and refresh your diving skills to make sure you are ready for the new season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bring your gear in early to avoid delays in summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With 5 dives a week, we are Wellington’s most active dive club with 5 dives on Thursday evenings and weekends. Please book a day or two prior to the dives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niue – Club Dive Trip 2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highlight of any dive trip to Niue has to be swimming with the whales – it is an experience you will never forget. We saw whales every day, from the deck over breakfast to hearing them breathe at night.
We enjoyed our 8 dives in 27 degree water and 40m+ visibility – we were definitely not in Wellington any more! Niue is known as the rock island and the dive sites reflect this with lots of canyons, caves & even a chimney to explore. Niue is also known for sea snakes and we saw plenty of Banded Sea Kraits and the local Katuali. There were lots of smaller reef fish, a few morays, some barracuda and batfish while the boys also saw a White Tip Reef Shark. There are also plenty of caves and chasms to explore on land so each afternoon was spent walking, exploring and snorkeling these sites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You missed out on Niue<\/a> but perhaps you are keen for Beqa Lagoon<\/a> in Fiji next year <\/strong>
and their infamous shark dives.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local Paua Quotas 2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

MPI have just posted a media release stating the daily limit for recreationally caught p\u0101ua will reduce to 5 of each p\u0101ua species per fisher to support the sustainability of stocks in the central and lower North Island.
These changes were made as concerns about the sustainability of p\u0101ua stocks grows, reports of localised depletion increase, and these impacts are expected to increase with higher levels of recreational fishing during the summer months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new rules take effect on Monday 4 September 2023<\/strong> – MPI Paua Regulations<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
