Dive HQ’s Monthly Review – January

Dive Club Wellington Updates

We kicked off with a club dive and BBQ on New Year’s Day and haven’t stopped since.  We have experienced a range of conditions thanks to Wellington’s weather but have enjoyed every dive with our club divers.

Dive Club Trip – Waikawa Bay, Marlborough Sounds

Some of our club divers spent Wellington Anniversary Weekend diving with Stuart from Waikawa Dive in the Marlborough Sounds. They explored 5 wrecks including a deep (30m) dive on the Mikhail Lermontov – a first for all of them, and a shallow (3m) dive on the Prince of Wales. It sounds like everyone had a lot of fun and we look forward to heading down again. Waikawa Bay Club Trip

Underwater Clean Up Dive at Day’s Bay Wharf

We joined up with the Explore Your Coast initiative at Days Bay with a beach and underwater clean up dive under the wharf. Our divers pulled out a whopping 120kg of marine debris, mostly construction debris. including bolts & ratchet straps, and fishing related equipment. Shown is 1 of the 3 kids scooters found. Concerningly we also found a dozen vapes. On a positive note there was no evidence of rubbish being dumped in this area and we were able to show what was found with the public who were both horrified with the amount of debris we collected and grateful for our efforts.
